New Advanced Energy Innovation Center to Help Create Jobs

Michigan Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin today welcomed the announcement of a federal grant that will boost Michigan's position as a hub of research into next-generation Energy technologies and help small businesses and companies throughout Southeast Michigan create more than 300 jobs. The $750,000 grant from the Economic Development Administration will help fund improvements at NextEnergy's research and development facility in Detroit. The changes will help Michigan companies develop technologies in automotive and other sectors and bring them more quickly to market. Project planners estimate it will create or retain 328 jobs in Southeast Michigan. 'This Advanced Energy Innovation Center will help Michigan continue as the nation's leader in new clean Energy patents,' said Stabenow. 'This effort will help get these new inventions to market and will create opportunities for Michigan businesses to create jobs.' 'NextEnergy's plans will help cement Michigan's status as a world-class hub of Energy innovation,' Levin said. 'With these improvements, more companies will be able to test and refine the technologies that will dominate our Energy infrastructure in the decades to come, and that means more jobs for Michigan.'
